1. I chose to learn about Feeding America and Kiva.
ReplyDelete2. I have heard about Feeding America but I have not heard about Kiva and to make them more known you have to put them where people see them like on the internet, facebook is a good example or twitter.
3. The first one is for America but the second one doesn't say where it is for it just has that it is internet based.
4. Feeding America: Supplies food to 25 million Americans each year, they have more than 200 food banks, and the food banks serve all 50 states.
Kiva: First person to person, empowers individuals to lend directly, and it is used to connect people.
5. I think Feeding America is but not Kiva because I have never heard of Kiva which is a way of showing it isn't well known but Feeding America is probably making an impact because it is well known.
6. I probably would not volunteer because I do not have the time but I could always do that phone thing that Beth showed us because that helps and it is little cost for me.
I learned from your research about Kiva that it is person to person and they want to connect with people. I agree with what you said. Mainly because they are facts and you cant really disagree with facts. But I do agree with how to make these organizations more known. I would have to learn a little more about Kiva to know exactly what it is but I think I would probably volunteer for it.
DeleteI chose to learn about Kiva and ONE. I haven’t really heard about any of the organizations on the list before. Kiva is an organization that collects money to provide loans for those who cannot get them throughout the world. They work across five continents. Their main purpose is to provide people the opportunity to become successful in life. Three facts I learned about the organization is that they help over 76 countries. They have over 246 field partners and over 450 volunteers throughout the world. I think that this organization is making an impact on the global poverty, because they aren’t just giving people money they are enabling them to work hard and start a future for themselves. The next organization I talked about was ONE. ONE particularly works to help in Africa. I learned that the amount of extreme poverty has been cut in half and that it could be gone by 2030 if we keep pushing to end poverty. ONE not only works to get rid of poverty, but also helps to get rid of diseases that plague Africa. I also believe that this organization is making an impact on global poverty, because even if you are only helping some people you are still making a difference. I would love to volunteer in organizations that would help get rid of poverty. I could not imagine living life where I had no home or nothing to eat, so if I had the opportunity to help others then hopefully in the future I will be able to go out and do it.
ReplyDelete1. I learned that there is an organization that helps specifically in Africa and that is ONE. I also learned that ONE also helps with more than just poverty but that is also helps with getting rid of diseases.
Delete2. I do agree with what you said about helping with poverty because it would be terrible to live in their situation! I personally wouldn't have the time but I could do the phone thing that Beth stated and it is an easy and simple way to help.
3. Again I could donate but I couldn't help due to the time factor.
I chose Feeding America and Mercy Corps. The only one I have heard about was Meals on Wheels. The way to get them known is through like advertising or social media or something that a lot of people have access to. Feeding America feeds Americans. They have food banks in all 50 states as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Mercy Corps doesnt necessarily help feed people but they build secure, safe communities. They have headquarters in North America and Europe and help people in many countries. 1 in 6 people in the United States suffer from hunger, the hungry are mainly hard working adults, children, and seniors, Mississippi is the top state that lacks adequate food. The Mercy Corps did not have any poverty facts really. They did say that they help some of the poorest countries like, Zimbabwe, Congo, and Syria. I think Mercy Corps is making a global impact because they have a mission to help so many countries and they help more than 16 million people. I think these organizations help many people and I would volunteer in one of them.
ReplyDeleteI learned that the mercy core helps build secure safe communities for people. And that they have headquarters in different countries and continents.
DeleteI do agree because she stated her point which I believe was correct and it gave me good information.
I might volunteer if i had the time too or if i knew anybody else volunteering.
I did not know that Mississippi was the top state that lacks food. I agree with what you said. I believe I would donate to feeding america.
Delete1. I chose to learn about Feeding America and project bread.
ReplyDelete2.I have not heard of any of the organizations that were listed above. I guess we could promote them more or we could try and just learn more about these kind of organizations.
3. Feeding America helps feed the domestic people of the United States and Puerto Rico. Project Bread helps the communities of Massachusetts fight hunger when people can't help there selves.
4. I learned that 16.5% of children in Massachusetts are food insecure. That project bread provides over $2 million in support. Project bread took over 46,000 calls for assistance in 2013. Feeding America has showed me that in 2012 46.5 million people were in poverty. 49 million Americans lived in food insecure households in 2012. And that 16.1 million 18 and older were in poverty.
5. I think they are helping but not tremendously changing the poverty rate of the country. Thy could do better if more people knew about it and knew how to help out. I would probably volunteer if I knew how to and where too and if other people i knew were doing it too. And if I had free time as well. I could donate money or food to help out but other then that I am not influential enough to change anything.
1. Project Bread helps out here in the United States, providing over 2 million dollars of support. I got very good statistics out of it.
Delete2. Yepp, very swell. I agree with what you wrote on number five, spot on.
3. Yeah, they sound like they are good organizations.
1. Feeding America and The Hunger Project
ReplyDelete2. I have heard about Feeding America and The Hunger Project and that is why I chose those two groups to learn more about. I think these organizations could become more known through more advertisements such as on TV or social media as well as having people talk about them to groups of people such as high schools.
3. Feeding America - Works solely to feed America
The Hunger Project - 11 countries throughout Africa, Asia, and Latin America
4. Feeding America - 1)Food Insecurity rate is at 19.5%, 2)Child food insecurity rate is at 26.7%, 3) 76% of food stamps household include a child, an elderly person, or a disabled person.
The Hunger Project - 1)60% of the world's hungry are women, 2) 1 out of 6 infants are born with a low birth weight in developing countries, 3) every 10 seconds a child dies from a hunger related disease.
5. I do think that these organizations are making an impact on global poverty. I think they have helped many people and even though there is still many to need help, even the slightest help can make a big change.
6. Yes I would volunteer to help these organizations because I believe it is for a great cause and the impact they have is great.
I read about those organizations too, they're great. If you volunteered, what would you do to help? Would you go to Africa, Asia, Latin America and help personally or would you help by funding or something?
Delete1. I choose Kiva and ONE
ReplyDelete2. I don’t think I have heard of any of the organizations. Making them more publicized to people all over the state, country, or world, not just in one single spot would benefit the organization. The word could be spread by social media, tv, radio, etc. Sad as it is, that’s how people know everything.
3. Kiva: doesn’t help “feed” people. Its a micro-lending website, that helps alleviate poverty in developing parts of the world.
ONE: Mainly Africa
4. Kiva:
I can personally lend the $25
First lending corporation
Doesn’t target one specific area, it reaches out to all developing nations.
ONE:
Backed up by over 2 million people
Targets Africa
Targets poverty and disease prevention.
5. They probably are, but not in large amounts. Nobody hears that a country’s poverty level dropped on the news. It’s something that I don’t believe can ever be alleviated completely, but obviously every little bit helps someone in some way.
6. I’d help. I’d lend $25 or volunteer. I think going on a mission trip type thing would be the coolest thing in the whole entire world, and is something that I’d love to have the opportunity to do someday. I’m not heartless, I promise.
I learned from your research simply what the main goal of these two organizations were since I had never heard of either one. I think it is neat that Kiva doesn't just strive to feed those in poverty like most groups do but it works to alleviate poverty in developing countries. I agree with you that poverty can probably not be completely alleviated but that every little bit helps. I would probably help out these organizations just like you said by either donating a little bit of money or volunteering.
Delete1.I chose to look further into The Hunger Project and Mercy Corps.
ReplyDelete2. The only organization I have heard of would be Feeding America. This is probably because they get a lot of media attention. If one wants to make these organizations more well know then they must take initiative and tell friends, church members (if you attend) or even churches themselves, talk about them on media such as facebook or twitter so they will actually be seen.
3. The Hunger Project helps feed Africa, Asia and Latin America. Mercy Corps helps with areas that have experienced disaster all over the world.
4. Mercy Corps
Sixty percent of the world's hungry are women.
One in every eight people go to bed at night hungry.
98 percent of the world’s hungry live in developing countries
The Hunger Project
The last two decades have been the most successful in history in the fight against poverty
Every 10 seconds, a child dies from hunger-related diseases
A third of all childhood death in sub-Saharan Africa is caused by hunger
5. Yes , the Hunger Project said that poverty in other countries may be resolved in our lifetime or shortly thereafter. Mercy Corps helps teach women trades and how to produce their own food. That alone could be saving their lives.
6. I would volunteer to help teach women how to produce their own food.
The first organization I chose was Feeding America. Feeding America is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief charity, with network members supplying food to more than 25 million Americans each year. Their network of more than 200 food banks serves all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The Feeding America network secures and distributes more than 2 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually. I have not heard of this organization before. I think we could make it known by posting information about it where people look regularly or have fund raisers for the organization. This isn’t necessarily helping globally but it most definitely is helping in the US.
ReplyDeleteThe second one I picked was ONE. ONE is a grassroots campaign and advocacy organization backed by more than 2 million people from around the world and every walk of life who are committed to the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa.
This organization is focused mainly in Africa and I think it is a very beneficial organization to stop hunger. I would volunteer for both of these organizations.
